He115 loss 26.10.1940

Anyone aware of an Allied claim for a He115 (1./506) lost over southern North Sea between 0700hrs-1300hrs BST (0800hrs-1400hrs GST)?

Nothing from Fighter Command and Coastal Command claimed He 115s on 24 and 27 Oct but not 26 Oct

Thanks for looking, Chris. If the Coastal claim was made by two Hudsons operating off the East Frisian Islands, their 'kill' actually got away.

24 Oct there were 2 combats off Kinnaird's Head at 1335 & 1530 hrs by 233 Sqn. 27 Oct was 1230 hrs off Ameland by Beauforts of 22 Sqn. In all cases they were claiming damaged

Bill, there was an He 115 claim in the "Southern N Sea" on 26.10.40, but outside your specified times. S4 + AH of 1/506 was brought down by a 61 Sqn Hampden engaged on a sea search off Gt Yarmouth at 1859 hours. The 3 crew paddled ashore the following day and were taken PoW.

He 115B W.Nr. 1889 S4+CH (British interrogation sources says S4+AH) of Küstenfliegerstaffel 1./506 was lost on 26.10.1940. The plane was shot down by a Handley Page Hampden of the east coast of England. The crew was rescued after reaching the coast north of Yarmouth after some 25 hours in their dinghy. The aircraft was found by Luftwaffe recce aircraft in position Pl.Qu. 2477/05 Ost the following day and sunk by gunfire from other Luftwaffe aircraft. The crew were all unwounded and taken as POW's. Lt.z.See Karl-Heinz Kemper (B), Uffz. Gerhard Grotefeld (F) and Obgefr. Kurt Forster (Bf).

Thanks 'BC' and 'Seaplanes', much appreciated. S4+AH was the one I was looking for (the 506 KTB states S4+AH as overdue; S4+CH of 1./506 was the relief aircraft in a 'running' recce. It returned OK). Can't explain time difference at the moment: S4+AH was expected back at 1400hrs (GST) at latest. Would you both mind giving me your sources?

It looks like 'Seaplanes' has got far more comprehensive gen on this one than me!
