Catalina shot down June 1942 by Convoy UR29

Hi guys

Can anyone provide details of this incident, please? The PBY5A Catalina (RAF or USN?) was apparently shot down circa 20 June 1942 by Convoy UR29 (British or American?) and crashed on Kossandr Beach (where?)

Cheers
Brian

Hi,
UR Loch Ewe (later Belfast) to Reykjavik (Iceland),

From the Convoy web pages -
So I expect that this may have been the 29th convoy to go that route.

As for Kossandr Beach , well it could well be in Iceland.

All for now

Hi,

Could it have been this one ?

Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina
2458 (VP-73) beached in Iceland 6/20/1942 after being shot
at by friendly convoy.

This info was updated to-

Hit by enemy fire, landed on beach and later salvaged by USN: DBR 4/seriously inj, 1/minor inj, 3/No injuries.

I beleive the a/c might have carried the side code 73-P-8.

See this link-

Hi Brian,

You may be able to find out more if you can contact Terry at
pb4y-2@sbcglobal.net

OR
Ragnar who gave the initial info on the VP site I beleive.

The AAIR website has Pilot as Lt.William Cole.

Brian,

I have an eleven-page report on the incident I'd be pleased to copy and mail to you if you're interested. Also, have a scanned photo of #2458 on the beach I could e-mail you. Would need your snail mail and e-mail addresses to pass these on, however.
