Photo wanted of Herbert Ihlefeld's Bf 109

Looking for a photo of one of Herbert Ihlefeld's Bf 109s or one from one of his groups, preferably JG 1. Also photos of Ihlefeld or nice photo(s) of Bf 109.

Thanks,

Neil

Come on Neil, this forum is not a supermarket. Either you be more specific or you google the web yourself.
Cheers

Well, if there were a photo of Ihlefeld's a/c online, I wouldn't be requesting one here, would I? If you have one, or know where I might find one, I'd be grateful.

Herbert Ihlefeld shot my Dad down 14 July 1944. For an upcoming publication, I could use a good photo.

See attachment. Sorry but Ihlefeld (132) would have been flying a more updated version by the time he shot your dad down.

Out of curiosity, who was your dad (unit etc.)? And how you able to determine FOR CERTAIN that Ihlefeld had shot him down?

Ihlefeld was probably flying a Bf 109 G-6 when he shot down your father in summer 1944. If you can get a copy of Eric Mombeek's Defenders of the Reich: Jagdgeschwader 1: Vol. 3 -- 1944-45, look on pg 272. There is nice color illustration of a G-6 Ihlefeld reportedly flew in fall 1944 as Kommodore of JG 1. There are some black and white photos of the plane after it was damaged in a crash landing. Since the pictures were taken not long after the date you say your father was downed and since Ihlefeld was also commanding JG 1 in July, there is a reasonable chance he was flying the same plane or at least one with similar markings as the one shown in Mombeek's book, although one cannot say for sure.

Hi Rob, Thanks for the attachment but I couldn't open it. Could you send it again, possibly in something other than Word? My Dad, First Lieutenant Stanley Canner, was with the 12th TRS of the 10th Photo Group. At the time he was shot down he was detached to the 67th TRG, based at Site A-9, Le Molay, France. Neil

Hello Neil,
I would suggest the book Aircraft of the Luftwaffe Fighter Aces by Bernd Barbas, vol.1. There are a lot of photos of Ihlefeld, but unfortunately not of his own aircraft by the time he shot your father.
You can see some good pictures of Ihlefeld at "La Luftwaffe ataque à L´Ouest" by French Editions Heimdal. He is climbing aboard a LG 2 machine and there is a caption of himself and a RAF Sergeant he shot down in front of the Spitfire.
Those are the only good photos I do remember seeing on books. Hope this help. I would suggest a contact directly with relatives of his family, if possible. It would be more interesting for your purposes.
Sincerely yours
Adriano

Hi Neil

My only suggestion is this book:

Jagdgeschwader 1 und 11, Teil 3, 1944-45, Jochen Prien/Peter Rodeike

Sadly I don't have it but if there any pictures extent I am sure this is the book that will have them. Perhaps one of our members have this tome?

Regards

Chris
