Spitfire loss on august 3th 1941
 
On august 3th 1941 54 squadron lost a Spitfire in sea off the coast off Oostende Belgium.It seems that the pilot was rescued. Who was he ?

Do you mean 31st August 41 ?

54 Sqnd lost F/Lt. Roy Mottram, killed (Neuf Berquim).

Are you sure of the Squadron being 54 and 3rd August 41 that you give ?

Franks in FCL Vol 1 has one loss for 54 Squadron on the 2nd. No details on the pilot or aircraft serial.

Hi,

Yes as Amrit1 says a Spitfire Mk.V from 54 Sqn off Ostend on the 2nd at 1920hrs pilot rescued.

P/O. Cunliffe from 129 Sqn was downed at 1605 hrs in a Spitfire Mk.I but was safe.
