Crippled B-26 photo
Hi all:
Seeking info on USAAF B-26C Marauder picture. Aircraft has left engine feathered and a belt of ammo is being thrown from lower tunnel gun position to lose weight. SN on fin appears to be '135177' with large '17' over this. I have this photo in two publications, but without date or details. Caption to one says: "returning from a mission in Italy" and "...damaged by German flak at Roccasecca Bridge". TIA for any input from readers. Regards, BC |

Re: Crippled B-26 photo
Gentlemen,
For your interest, Trevor Allen, historian for B26.co.uk has identified the B-26C as "Uden Uden's Oil Burner", SN 41-35177, BN.17 from the 34th Sqn., 17th BG. The incident occurred on 14 May 1944, and the pilot (Lt Bennett) and crew were able to make a safe landing at Naples. Thanks to those who posted. BC |
