Johannes Lux 14/10/40

Good Evening,
Can anyone give me any information about the above pilot. I know he belonged to JG2 and was reported missing on the 14th October 1940 following combat at Selsey Bill. Any personal information and details of his career prior to this date would be of great interest. Thanks Del.

Re: Johannes Lux 14/10/40 7/JG2

Folks, still trying to establish the cause of the loss of Gftr Johannes Lux of 7/JG2 at Sway, Hampshire on the 14th October 1940.
One theory offered is that he was lost in combat with P.O. Barclay of 249 Sqn.
I am also struggling to locate a burial for him.
Can anyone assist?
Thanks,
Del.

Accounts of this loss have surfaced from time to time over the years I've been interested in such things but I have been unable to corroborate them with any degree of certainty. I currently have it documented thus:

7./JG2 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7 (720). Crashed into the Channel from high altitude during sortie south of Selsey Bill and believed victim of annoxia. FF Obergefr Johannes Lux missing. Aircraft White 12 + ~ 100% write-off.
This loss has been linked to persistent rumours of a crash near Durns Town, Sway, in the New Forest. Local enquiries having failed to corroborate these reports, it is believed that they probably relate to the loss of Gefr Aloys Pollack of 4./JG2 on the following day.

Re: Johannes Lux 14/10/40

Thanks Peter, local (verbal) history still suggests a crash site in Sway but I have yet to see any official documentation supporting this. The local paper carried a very full account of the Pollack incident. I would have thought that they would have done the same for any other local crash, but again I have been unable to locate any reporting.
Are any personal details known about Lux?

Re: Johannes Lux 14/10/40

As you say, no official documentation other than what appeared to be a cryptic preliminary report in the AIR22/266 listings which never found its way into their more detailed records. This mentioned 'Downtown, Sway' which I interpreted as 'Durnstown' and my local enquiries threw up the location as 'Portmore' but that trail soon went cold. So, in the absence of any substantive official record (at a time when both civil & military authorities were well used to such incidents) nor any burial I concluded the account had no foundation in fact. I have no personal details of Johannes LUX - sorry.

Re: Johannes Lux 14/10/40

Thanks again Peter. Local stories still persist but without foundation. I will continue to look at this one from time to time, perhaps one day we will get to the bottom of it. Thanks for your help.
