The attached photo of a crash-landed He 111 appears in one the albums found by Ed. This plane should be "A1+BB" of Stab. I./KG 53.
From the information given in the photo album it is likely that this aircraft was photographed in October or November 1939 at Ansbach or Frankfurt/Main, shortly after the return of the unit from the Polish campaign. It is also possible that this photo had been taken some weeks earlier at Giessen or even still in eastern Germany. This is suggested by the lighter clothing of the maintenance crew and the large pine forest in the background, typical for eastern Europe.
Is there any info on this crash or what the Werknummer of "A1+BB" had been? Also, do you know if the "eagle emblem" of I./KG 53 was yet painted on a round shield during the Polish campaign? It is not really recognizable from the photo...
