Re: Australian War Memorial, Bf 109 G-6(?)

During the 1970's I was a trainee technical officer (electrical) with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) in Australia. This department run and controlled all airports in Australia at the time.

Marshell Airlines were based at Bankstown and the owner absolutely hated DCA. This 109 was in their hanger and I approached the owner to inspect the aircraft. All I got was a flat no when he found out I worked for DCA.

The only time I could get a look at the 109 was when I had to enter the hanger to read the electricity meters each month. The 109 was stored high up and could only be viewed from a distance.

I have always regreted that I could not get a good look over the aircraft.
