RAF Raid on Lecce Airfield

Hi all,

I am currently researching the Blenheim years of 30 Sqn RAF. Whilst going through some paperwork I have read several reports detailing a raid carried out by the Sqn on Regia Aeronautica aircraft at Lecce Airfield at dawn on 28th March 1941.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find any further information regarding this raid so I hoping some experts here may be able to help.

I would like to find out why the Italian aircraft were lined up as if on parade. I know that date is the anniversary of the conception of the RA but were they expecting some dignitary to visit? What damage/casualties were sustained by the RA? Which Sqn's of the RA had aircraft at Lecce on that date?

Any help with these questions or any other information/photos would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Simon
