my advice is tricky: if you do not have chance to go over Aachen a see the files, you never know what you get. Sometimes there is just one page with dates of few awards, sometimes it is comprehensive file with 20 - 30 pages including review of airmanīs activity (number of missions per time and territory), comments of superiors about airmanīs performance (i.e. files that airman himself was probably never allowed to see).
But sometimes there is nothing especially in case of NCOs.
