Here some information about Rudolf Braunburg.

Braunburg Sr., a German without work, came to the Netherlands in 1933. His wife and 10-year old son joined him in the spring of 1934. They lived at Vaassen, north of Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. Rudolf was very interested in aviation and wanted to become a pilot. After highschool his father send him to a German NS Lehrerbildungsanstalt. In 1942 he had to go in to military service as a Reichsdeutscher. He went to the Luftwaffe and became pilot at a freight plane.
At the end of the war he was trained as a fighter pilot. He was shot down by a British Mosquito over Austria in his Fw 190 and could make a safe emergency landing. After this incident he was send to an infantry unit and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. At January 2nd 1945 he became Pow.
After the war he became a schoolteacher but in 1955 he got the opportunity to become an airline pilot in the Lufthansa. In April 1959 he became captain at the DC-3. He retired as a DC-10 captain in 1979.
