When it comes to bottom -- in 1941 the Curtiss-Wright Corp., Propeller Division, had its ad campaign in the US press dedicated to aviation. One of those ads included high-quality color photograph of the Brewster Model 339D "B-3119" in the Dutch painting scheme. The bottom surfaces look like matt light grey but... who knows, maybe the other forumers are right.
