Re: Mr Christopher Shore's new project

With regard to Japanese Naval Air Force Fighter Units and Their Aces, 1932-1945, I do not know Dr Hata's part in the new edition. Dr Izawa did extensive research in the Japanese archives in recent years, reviewing all the existing records he could locate. Chris Shores' part was in editing Yasuho's English version (I do not know if there is to be a Japanese version of this new edition), and adding material on the Allies. So yes, it is a pretty complete revision of the original.

With regard to the Mediterranean series Chris expects to turn in the manuscript for the first volume (June 1940 to mid-Jan 1942) by the end of the year. I don't know that an exact publication date has been set. The period from Jan 1942 to May 1943 will probably require at least two volumes. The next volume he will concentrate on will be the period May to Oct 1943; then he will probably go back to the 1942-43 period, for at least one volume. Further details depend on the March Of Time. His health however is still quite good. He will be in Texas for the American Fighter Aces Association convention this weekend (Sept 23-26), so those attending can ask him further questions.

Enjoy!

Frank.
