On 16/11/42 during a Rhubarb operation over the continent he flew through high tension cables damaging his Spitfire EN922 WX-U, but returned safely to base. He left 302 Sqn in early January 1943 to undergo his officer's course and was commissioned on 15/4/43 (changing his service no. to P-2216). He returned to 302 Sqn on 10/5/43 but on 3/6/43 he was reposted to 308 Sqn, flying with it until 12/11/44. Having completed his combat tour he became an instructor at 61 OTU (fighter training). He then was a flying instructor at 16 (Polish) Service Flying Training School until November 1945. On 14/11/45 he was posted to 303 Sqn, and on 11/1/46 moved to 316 Sqn with which he served until its disbandment at the end of 1946.
