Re: Piper L4 depending from the 79th DIUS ?
Mathias,
The 79th Inf Div had 310, 311 and 312 FA Battalions under 154th FA Bde.
ABMC mentions one casualty on 25/11/44: SSgt Percell Hunt with 311 FA Bn, but far from certain if he's involved in the L-4 loss you're after, which was a claim of Oblt. Herbert Rollwege of 5./JG53.
There were at least two other L-4 losses in the greater area, and these were operating with HQ Bty, 202 FA Bn. They were the L-4s with respectively 1 Lt Allen L. Hathaway and 2 Lt George T. Schleier on 18 Nov 44 near Harbouey and 1 Lt Orris E. Herr and 1 Lt John W. White on 4 Dec 1944 near Puberg.
Both Grasshoppers were hit by friendly artillery fire.
Regards,
Leendert
