Is the number of USAAF fighters destroyed on the ground by the Poltava attack known with certainty?
Whatever the source, I have always seen the the number of B 17s destroyed reported as being in the mid-forties.
However, while Craven and Cate's
The Army Air Forces in World War Two states that: "....Besides, fifteen Mustangs and miscellaneous Russian aircraft were destroyed....." (

I note that the second post in this thread refers to the destruction of two single engine A/C.
