Re: Helsinki Malmi airfield random pics

Hello!

I would say majority of the "German" photos are from June-July 1941 from the time when KGr 806 with Ju 88s was there.

On picture 13 background it might me one of the three KGr 506 Ju 88 planes attached to KGr 806.

Picture 14 is German aerial mine? Experts surely can give the type.

Finnish fighters without yellow nose but with yellow ring on fuselage and underside wing tips are from period June-September 1941.

Picture 7 I would say is more likely from July 3th, 1941. The smoke column comes from Malmi town/railway station (direction, at least). On the day at 14.00 o'clock Finnish time two Soviet I-153 strafed the airfield and the hills around plus Malmi town. At Malmi town a chemical factory was set ablaze and burned to ground. Source for this is war diary of Malmi tower or personal diary of a air traffic controller. IIRC held at Helsinki city archive? I have only copies received from a friend.

Personally I am most interested about this photo:

Is this Me 110 +KP one which took part on the Beowulf operation? That was operation to take the Estonian islands September-October 1941. BTW what was II/ZG 26 unit code at the time?

All in all very interesting selection of great photos. Kiitos.

Cheers,
Kari
