Makes "engineering sense" that oxygen fittings are brass (or copper), not steel. Brass will not readily corrode (avoids contaminating the O system), provides a germicidal function at the surface (avoids tainting the O), and, most importantly, will not spark given harsh metal on metal contact (e.g., when a connection nut is turned) - add a spark (heat) to concentrated O near a flammable material (fuel) and look out (flash combustion - fire)!
