Re: Lost B17 and B24 on 1945.01.12 in Belgium
Good evening Christophe !
According the Operation Reports, there were no operational missions of 8th and 9th AF on January 12th, 1945, over ETO.
Additional, sources report four non-operational accidental-incidents of 398th BG and one crash-landing of 92nd
B-17 that day.
Two 458th BG and one 491st BG B-24 had mishaps that day.
Source: (The Mighty Eight Combat Chronology)
These mishaps may have had occured in England as well as in Belgium. By the bombing around the Christmas days 1944 in the Ardennes pocket and general region, many allied bombers were damaged and landed in Belgium on allied airfields to be repaired. After the maintenance or repair, they went for their bases to UK.
Best wishes !
