Spitfire escort to Meerbeck, 27 Aug 44

On 27 August, 1944, England-based Spitfires from ADGB/Fighter Command, using external tanks, flew as escorts for the first posr D-Day Bomber Command daylight mission to Germany, against the refinery at Meerbeck.

Can anyone direct me to any sources on this mission? There was not a lot (any?) opposition by Luftwaffe fighters, but it seems to have been the longest range Spitfire mission of the war in northwest Europe. What sort of droptanks were carried? Were there any subsequent comparable long-range missions by England-based Spitfires? Does the Webster & Frankland official history mention this?

Thanks,
David Isby
