Bellstedt was also the one to down a civil BOAC a/c
on 06/01/1943 !

Leslie Howard, the distinguished actor, director and producer of THE LAMP STILL BURNS, lost his life at approximately 12.50 hrs. on June 1st 1943 while a passenger on board a civil airliner when it was shot down over the Bay of Biscay by Oblt. Albrecht Bellstedt, the pilot of a Luftwaffe Junkers 88. The Douglas DC3, GAGBB, ex. KLM, PH-ALI “Ibis” on charter to British Overseas Airways from KLM, was on a flight from Lisbon to the BOAC wartime base at Whitchurch, near Bristol. The 17 souls on board included the four Dutch crew, eleven adult passengers, a child and an infant. There were no survivors and it is not known if this attack on a civil aircraft was intentional or if it was a tragic mistake.
