Re: Three pilots and their planes
Oudjat, the picture by martin is the same as in the "JG 1" book I have. As he said Overhagen is the one leaning on the wing.
Vinnie, you made some more assumptions that what I did.
Reichstein and Job were members of 8./JG 1 on 12 January 1943
Job later scored victories with 10./JG 11, between Novembre 1943 and January 1945. It seems logical he became a member of I./JG 11 when III./JG 1 was renamed.
As I said no trace of Reichstein, so no idea if he did the same.
I know that Overhagen was a member of 8./JG 1 before 19 August 1943 (date of Zuzic's death) and was Stka of the unit from 3 Nov 43 until his death. I have no idea if he was a member of the old 8./JG 1 before his renaming in 2./JG 11. In April 1943 the whole structure of III./JG 1 became the I./JG 11 and a new III./JG 1 was built from scratch. It is very probable that Overhagen was not a member of III./JG 1 before April 1943, and that he ever was in the same unit as Job and Reichstein, unless you have a trace of it.
For me these three men were part of two different units carrying the same name in different periods.
