Inn WW I Edward Mannock was known as the RFC's one-eyed ace but there's uncertainty as to whether he was actually blind in one eye. The German Air Service apparently was less concerned about vision than the allies. Three aces who wore glasses were Bernert, Kissenberth, and Wintgens. I can say from experience that even without goggles, a tight fitting helmet permits you to keep glasses in place in an open cockpit, but a large windscreen definitely helps. The thing that I worried about was peripheral vision.
