Re: Loss date S1+BK of 2./StG 76?
Hello,
Several photos of this a/c have appeared on eBay, and one of them had the caption hand-written on the back, "Bellevaux, Belgium." Both Jochen Prien and Peter Taghon have verified this location from the handwriting, and confirmed this as the location of an airfield. This likely matches losses reported by the unit on either 12 or, as Robert says, on 14 May 1940. We have many photos of I./StG76 Stukas in our EOE DB, and this unit does not appear to have updated the fuselage crosses and swasticas used on their a/c during 1939 by the time of the WC of 1940, although later assigned a/c were properly marked for their time period.
Regards,
Regards,
