Agreed, a very interesting photo, and much information provided by you all. However, I have a question.

Peter has kindly provided information which may indicate this is an A-1 sub-type, yet closer examination of its right wing clearly shows it has an 'inserted' aileron and the wintip extends beyond this control surface. Might this not be, in fact, an A-5 instead?

I am of the understanding that some damaged machines were rebuilt at the repair yards with parts from other aircraft. Could this perhaps be one of those, refitted with a later wing, but originally constructed as an A-1?
