Oblt. Hans Dortenmann

Greetings to all!

I am curious about Oberleutnant Hans Dortenmann. He figures prominently in the book by Axel Urbanke "Green Hearts: First in Combat with the Dora-9". A very fine book that I have read now three times. Good work, Mr. Urbanke.

I have great admiration for the way in which Oblt. Dortenmann looked out for the young pilots he commanded, even to the point of clashing with his superiors. I find his story of courage in the face of certain defeat pretty inspiring.

In searching for info on him from the internet, I learned that he passed on in 1973. Was it as a result of wounds suffered? What did he do in post war life? For a war survivor, information on this man seems pretty thin.

Can anybody here add anything?

Thanks!
