Hi guys
Interesting discussion and although I like Peter beleive that the unit in question was III./JG 54 it certainly was the tactful and more importantly respectful thing to do to not argue with Mr Schlosstein over the issue. One must remember that we are dealing with events that occurred over 67 years ago in a very stressful environment and that the unit existed as part of JG 54 for only about a month and a half (not to mention the use of the tactical insignia normally associated with a IV. Gruppe). Many thanks to Raimo for the videos and his information some of which I have used in compiling a thumbnail biography of this pilot. Any comments or corrections will be very welcome.
