Re: Looking for ID of KG30 Ju88 photo with a/c code "Z"

I agree with anderbe. This is quite certainly a VERY EARLY Ju 88 A-1 (short wing) from Ju own factory, in fact so early that I have saved this image under "A-0"

This designation is not true of course, but indicates this is Ju 88 A-1, well under W.Nr. 0119 from Junkers, but I have not found concrete number a certain detail changes. The detail/clue is the position of the first aid kit container compartment right abowe and right to the fuselage cross (same position as seen on ALL them equipped with four blader props). This was positioned more aft on A-1 0119, 0133, 0142 etc, and yet moved further aft on the A-4 / D-1 versions, and reduced in size to single compartment.

I have possibly found this detail on one other Ju 88 A-1 (from a Licence factory), but this is yet just one single example (that might be mis-indentified). Pointers to phots showing this on other is welcome.

The position of the Hakencrautz however says this might be later period production aircraft, but again it might already have been thrugh rework or repair (and fitted with replacement fin, already having a Hakencrautz painted to later standard).

There is no match for this II/KG 30 incident after September 1940, so I tend to agree this is earlier, ie summer 1940.
