Re: Biography of Martin Drewes, nightfighter ace
Hello Sergio,
Long time ago we had contact about some optical device from Nedinsco / Venlo and I remember to have discussed with you the Fw58 Weihe too.
Now something completely different: do you have contact with Mr. Martin Drewes and if you have, could you contact him whether the III./NJG 1 in the final phase of the war had a (or any) Heinkel He219's.
If someone could solve that mystery for our He219 research project, it is Martin Drewes as the last Gruppenkommandeur.
The reason for asking is twofold:
1) on 29 March 1945 a crew of 8./NJG 1 flew a He219 from Dortmund to Hildesheim but went missing. They were recovered in 1970.
2) after the war a He219 (Wnr. 290112) without unit markings was found in Hildesheim, it might have belonged to the III./NJG 1 but... only if the III./NJG 1 had ever received a He219.
Your help is very much appreciated because the identification of this He219 is one of the more puzzling questions.
All the best and patiently looking to hear from you,
Marcel Hogenhuis / Venlo
