Re: Mosquito victory on the 01/02.02.1945

Hi Melvin,

I assume that you are researching one of the four Bf110s of IV./NJG5 or Bf110 of III./NJG5 that were recorded as lost on 1 February 1945. Four are recorded as being lost due to enemy fire and the fifth to aircraft armaments fire.

To the best of my knowledge the IV./NJG5 aircraft were all involved in ground attack operations in the Küstrin area on the Eastern Front.

The III./NJG5 aircraft crashed near Königsberg-NM, but it is not clear if it crashed during the day or night. I suspect that it was during the day.

The KTB of III./NJG5 records that on the 1 February 1945 crews were ordered to fly day-time ground attack sorties against the Soviet bridgehead across the Oder, between Kienitz and Gydoweise, 15 km NW Küstrin. Another III./NJG5 Bf110 was lost on 2 February 1945 during a day-time ground attack sortie.

Cheers

Rod
