I think, that in this information is possible misidentyfication of type the
lost plane. Konin is lost in this mission as a pilot of 71. IAP VVS KBF. And he died shot down by German pilot but not in I-153 but in MIG-3. There were two air mission. 1st to cover attack of Soviet torpedo boats against these two "ships/tugs" done by 1 Yak-1 and 3 I-153 (no losses) caaled in this Russian diary as "zvieno". 2-ed, escort of 3 or 2 DB-3T by 2 MiG-3 of 71. IAP VVS KBF (second zvieno).

During this second mission was lost one each Soviet plane. This what make more probably this version is German claims as "I-18" and not Curtiss is too huge difference between MiG-3 and I-153. From the distance 200-300 m it is easy to see differences.
