Re: Who was the bomber pilot? BBC Broadcast.
Hallo Brian,
Definitely P/O Andrew Woodrow Dunn from Co. Derry. He suffered the loss of 5 Whitleys from May to September 1940, all with 77 Squadron. 20/21 May, 6/7 June, 9/10 June, 19/20 June and 23/24 September 1940. Unfortunately the last was fatal to him and all but one of his crew. Amazing fortitude.
All the above from 'RAF BOMBER COMMAND LOSSES, 1939-1940' by W.R. Chorley and 'IRISH MEN and WOMEN in the SECOND WORLD WAR' by Richard Doherty, 1999, Four Courts Press.
Hope this helps,
Martin Gleeson.
