#3 Could perhaps be "Die Verlobten" (I Promessi Sposi)(= (but no "r" seems to have been written -> mistake?) meaning "the betrothed" or "The fiancés" . According to Wikipedia, this was a book, a historic novel, from Alessandro Manzoni, published in 1842 which was translated to the German language many times and republished in 1923. A quick summary overview of this article put this book to an equal level as books from Goethe.
