Strüning, Heinz. - Hptm. - born: 1/13/1912 Neviges Rheinland - 56 victories - 5./ZG-26(39), (Z)/KG-30(40), 1./NJG-2(11/40), 7 & 4./NJG-2, Stfkpt 2 & 3./NJG-1(7/42), Stfkpt 9./NJG-1 Ju 88C-1 Werk # 0142 "4D + NH" (force land-Flak 4/13/40), in KG-30, Bf 110C & He 219 in 3/NJG-1, Bf 110G-4 Werk# 740162 "G9 + CT" (lost 12/44) RK(10/29/42)-El (7/20/44), DK-G(7/29/42), EP(6/12/41), EK 1 & 2, Wound Badge, Night Fighter Operational Clasp KIA 24/25 December, 1944 when he was shot down by an RAF Mosquito of RAF No. 157 Sq., piloted by S/Ldr R.D. Doleman, near Werl. When bailing out, he struck the tailplane and was killed. His body was found some weeks later. WIA 5/6 September, 1943, when both engines were damaged in combat and he crashed at Güsten (Balss). A Lancaster 18 km NE of Brügge on 11 May, 1944. A Halifax 15 km SSE of Brussels on 13 May, 1944. Bowers/Lednicer, 56 victories. Alternate spelling: Struening (DeSwart).
