Bailed safely but struck the tail and was killed. On 2 December, 1940, forced to make a belly landing at Cadzand in #4131 after running out of fuel. Another force landing with minor injuries behind Russian lines on 24 June, 1942 in Bf 109F2 Wk# 5477 "Yellow 3" after Russian flak hit his oil line. Returned safely. A 3rd force landing at Vassilkov airfield 10 August, 1941 in F-2 #6818 after aerial combat with Soviets in the Kiev area. Assigned to JG-104 after the death of his brother. His 2nd, a Morane 406 15 km southeast of Amiens, 26 May, 1940. His 3rd, a Blenheim at St. Valery/Abbeville, 6 June, 1940. Partial credit with Walter Binder, on an unidentified seaplane at Loiremündung, 21 June, 1940. His 1st victory in the S.U., his 9th, an I-153 on 22 June, 1941. Victories 22 & 23 were Hampdens 10 km west of Katwijk-aan-Zee on 12 February, 1942. His 27th & 28th, a B-17 and a B-17 (HSS) at Merzhauzen on 12 May, 1944. Magnus.
