The date is definitely 12.05.1940. A lot of aircraft lost on this date, I guess I would start looking at the losses sustained by reconnoissance units.
There is of course also a rather large possibility that the mother in this case has received a message that her son was lost in the fight against England, and that the location could be anywhere on the western front.

Ahhh... but I have seen the holy grail! And it is painted RLM 76 all over with a large Mickey Mouse on the side, there is a familiar pilot in front of it and it has an Erla Haube!
