Re: Photos Captured FW 190 F8 (F9 ?) Italy

As reported in our now veteran "Air War Italy 1944-45" back in 1996...

"25 APRIL 1945

(...) Shortly after American troops overran Villafranca an Fw 190F-9 landed there, whether by accident or design is unknown. It bore no unit markings, only the normal crosses and W.Nr.440340, but presumably it was intended for the now-departed NSGr.9. Its sister, 440341 and equally pristine, was found by the Americans at Neubiberg-bei-München..."

No details were available about the name of the pilot, but presumably was from one of the transport flights which delivered aircraft to the units.

The Focke Wulf was
later damaged while one of the pilots of the 57th FG (which was provisionally located there) attempted to taxi with it. That is why in some of the survived images it shows a semi retracted undercarriage leg.

Hope this helps.
