Re: Spitfire crash 28/8/43 hinks plantions

The collision was on the 22nd August 1943, between P7304 and P7444 of No.61 OTU, with P7304 being the aircraft which was destroyed and was ecavated during 1977 by the Wartime Aircraft Recovery Group. They recorded the location as near Lilleshall, from the map I see Hinks Plantation is the west of Lilleshall.

The pilot of P7304 was Sgt Jean Joseph Albert Noizet, 143485, a Belgian member of the RAFVR.

P7444 is recorded in the Air Britain list as having landed at Rednal rather than High Ercall, though High Ercall is quite close to where the collision occurred, as was Chetwynd and it probably did land at the closest airfield. Its pilot was Pilot Officer H.M. Goldsmit 151928, also Belgian.

There is a photo of the engine and another of parts from P7304 on http://wargroup.homestead.com/museum.html
