My own research pretty much coincides with what you've discovered Nick, and was confirmed by a third party on another forum. Musical tails!
Anyhoo, another fella on that same forum has also confirmed that the photos were indeed taken in Dayton, Ohio. The airplane was displayed in front of what's known as the 'old' courthouse. A bit of grunging around netted some photos of this building as it appears today and there is little doubt that this was the location where the photos were taken.
I'm going to try and grab these photos but I'm sure it'll go way above and beyond my means, especially with entities like good 'ole Sudek around...
