Re: Hartmann's P-51 victories--7 to two?
Hi, yes Hartmann had one or two Mustang's the first was definately confirmed, it was on 24th June 1944(his 264th) Into the Black Sea South of Kop-Takyl at 0950 hrs from an altitude of 3000 metres!
The alleged second was estimated to be sometime between the 11th and 16th March 1945(his 346th?) but most of his claims for 1945 are vague, only a few are on the KBT papers. Don't believe too much from the Tolliver/Constable books, also he was never it seems forced to bale-out whilst in combat with P-51's. Most of JG52's previously claims U.S claims seem never to have been confirmed Fritz Obleser told my friend Bernd Barbas when questioned about this that he personnally was so engaged in making his escape(under extreme presure) after each of his nine claims that he never was able to witness the crash, and therefore they were never confirmed. None of Wilhelm Batz's were confirmed either, so Hartmann may very well have made other claims that were just never confirmed, moreover Hartmann had it seems at least 350 Russian confirmations(and at least two unconfirmed), so fulllfilled his toatl without U.S aircraft!
Kind Regards
Johannes
