During November and maybe December one squadron (I think) of KG40 was sent to the Med with its FW200 to help in supplying German forces in North Africa, especially with fuel. Based on ULTRA intercepts, I believe they were based in Lecce. The mission was not a big success, Fliegerkorps X quickly asking for more Ju 52 instead because the serviceability issues imposed by the use of the FW200 were in no relation to the benefit that the enhanced carrying capacity brought.

Does anyone have further details on this posting, especially if any losses were suffered?
