Re: Last P-51 Mustang Shot Down by a Fw-190
One late war P-51 Mutang loss not shown in the Luftwaffe victory listing was the loss of a French AF P-51 Mustang to enemy A/C on April 17,1945
On April 17,1945 two P-51 of 2/33 Belfort flown by Lt.s Sainflou and Delegue took off at 0910 to perform a reconaissance mission.
Between Nuertigen and Kirchheim they spotted a dozen enemy aircrafts, identified as Me-109s circling. Lt. Sainflou called Lt. Delegue on the R/T but received no reply.
At that instant, two Me-109s detached from the formation and attacked the two Mustangs. Lt. Sainflou escaped while Lt. Delegue went down in flames.
JG-53 did report combat with two P-51s but reported these escaped.
