Re: Trying to track down details of an FW-190 shot down July 26th 1944

Almost certainly Stab or II./JG 300. These were the only two Fw 190-equipped units making the interception on that date against XV Bomber Command over Austria. The air action occurred in the Wien (Vienna) - Aspern - Gleisdorf - Semmering - Bruck a.d. Mur - Graz area and the Luftwaffe claimed 23, mostly B-17s but also 2 x P-38s and 2 x P-51s.

There is a huge multi-volume history of JG 300 written by a French author and published just a couple of years ago. I do not have it, but this well-researched work should help you identify the German pilot and where the Fw 190 crashed.
