Re: Killing of RAF POWs 1945

Similar story of the crew of the B-24 42 -110107 " Wham! Bam" of the 461st BG. A book title "The Last Mission of the Wham Bam Boys" describes their capture after being shot down and subsequent murder of the crew, or so thought the captors, mostly civilian but some local authorities of the town ( Russelsheim ). The book describes how the members were beaten and thought to be dead, taken to a field for burial, when another daylight air raid caused the captors to scatter. Two of the crew ( I think of nine ) awoke and escaped. They traveled are were eventually recaptured, but in the town where the incident happened, no one had taken a count, so they were not know to be missing. The incident was learned when the war ended and eventually some townspeople and authorities were tried and convicted.
