7 June 1940 France - confusion!!
Hi guys
I can't figure this one out so would appreciate the help of our experts.
Hurricanes and Bf109s clashed on several occasions, as I have attempted to show:
1100-1215: 10/43, 3/601 Squadrons lost L1931, L1847, L2116 and N2585, and claimed 2 Bf109s in return - possibly to I(J)/LG2 (claimed 3) and 9/JG3(claimed 1 and lost 1)
1315-1450: 17/56/79/151 Squadrons. 17 Sqn lost P3472 (to Do17 return fire), P2905 and P3529 and claimed 2 109s; 56 Sqn claimed 109. III/JG3 claimed 2, but lost 3. Also, 3/JG54 claimed 1.
1715-1835 (the mystery period!) 17,32 and 111 Squadrons claimed 5 109s
(4 by 111, and 1 by 17 Sqn). Also, 43 (returning from sojourn at Rouen) claimed 3 or 4 109s for 4 losses L1608, L1737, L1726, P3490 (601 attachee). Total 8 Bf109s claimed, but 11 Hurricanes claimed by 3/JG3 (4); 4/JG26 (4), I/JG20 (1), I/JG76 (2). The question is, did the four units all attack the same 43/601 flight?
I would be grateful if someone could clarify etc.
