Alert,N.W.T, is station CYLT located at latitude 82.5 degrees North on the north shore of Ellesmere Island, some 510 mile from the North Pole. My job was to launch and track weather balloons to over 100,00 feet height twice a day in order to establish temperature and humidity profiles and to measure the upper winds. Secondary tasks were to take air samples and service the neutron and meson counters and maintain the RF1 and RF 4 radiation sensors.
