BOHDAN ANDERS

Born on 27 February 1915 in Poznań. Joined the Polish Air Force College at Dęblin and was commissioned in the 12th class, on 1 August 1939. Before that, in March 1939 he was posted for operational practice with the 132nd Fighter Flight of the 2rd Air Regiment in Poznań. He was then reposted to the 131st Fighter Flight, with which he took part in fighting over Poland in September 1939. On 18 September he reached Warsaw (encircled by the Germans). He joined the Air Force Assault Troop (a ground fighting unit). On the morning of 26 September he left Warsaw (together with Sub-Lt Ryszard Malczewski) in a PZL-5 biplane, reaching Hungary. He then went to France, where he joined the exiled Polish Air Force. He trained at Montpellier (January-February 1940). From March 1940 he was a pilot in the POlish section of Capt. Jan Pentz, assigned to the GC II/6. In June 1940 he evacuated to Britain. He received the service no. P-0161. In July 1940 he was posted to the newly forming No. 302 Squadron, but was reposted to the Central Flying School for additional conversion training on RAF aircraft. In March 1941 he joined No. 316 Squadron.
On 2 June 1941 he flew a sortie in Miles Magister I R1838. He hit balloon cables over Newport in bad visibility and crashed at Malpass Road. He was buried in the RAF section of Pembrey Cemetery, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
