St Ives air raid(s)
During WW2 the Luftwaffe launched two attacks on the gasworks at St Ives in Cornwall, England. The first, on 28 August 1942, involved two aircraft and resulted in the demolition of the works. The second, against the rebuilt works on an unknown date, involved one aircraft and did superficial damage to the new gasometer.
The fact that both attacks succeeded, against a very difficult target, suggests that these were experienced pilots.
Can anyone supply the date of the second attack and any details, including the reason for the interest in what appears to be an insignificant target.
