Help With Luftwaffe Pilot/Aircraft Loss
Hello Everyone, I purchased a Luftwaffe tunic some years back and found a piece of paper folded up in the cuff. After translating it I found that the tunic belonged to Luftwaffe Oberleutenant Otto Vandieken (born 28.10.1908) who belonged to the 12.Staffel/Transportgeschwader 3 as a squadron leader and was stationed near Zaporozhye (Ukraine) on 7.24.1943 supplying the "boiler" in Stalingrad. I found that he was killed in action in Crimea on 29.02.1944 and was buried in Tiraspol Crimea. I found 2 conflicting sources that show he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 3.20.1944 and/or 5.6.1944. He was also awarded the EK1 and EK2 along with Transport Clasp.
I was wondering if anyone could help with any Luftwaffe Loss reports on the day of his death which shows how he was killed. Also any additional info that is found on the pilot or unit would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
