Re: lost of F-6 44-10897 in 16.03.45
15th TRS lost an F-6 on 16 March 1945 near Bingen, Germany. Lt Robert W. Shively and Lt Earl A. Ray were near that town when they encounterd German fighters.
They split up to engage the enemy but became separated when entering heavy cloud. Not soon after Ray radioed Shively that he (Ray) had suffered Flak damages near Mannheim and was bailing out near Bingen.
Ray was taken prisoner.
